'Maisha' is Swahili for 'life' and 'Bora' means 'better'. The Maisha Bora Foundation was formed from our desire to make a positive difference to the lives of people in Tanzania, in other words create a better life for all. This Foundation is funded from profits from Majestic Kilimanjaro Treks and Safaris.
The full 50% of Liana and Steve's share of the profits generated from Majestic Kilimanjaro Treks & Safaris goes into the Foundation. In fact, Steve and Liana take no income from this venture either.
In our hearts we are social entrepreneurs - using our business skills to generate income/funds for community works. Tumaini gives many hours of his time to ensure our programs run well.
In 2016, we decided to lend a hand to other East Africans, specifically refugees who fled their country to Uganda. While we can not help the countless who now find themselves in poverty in Uganda we are working to help some through the creation of a Literacy and Numeracy Learning Centre for people aged 16 years and older. We are also exploring social enterprises that will create local jobs for Burundians and Ugandans, and generate profits that we can put towards the learning centre and other future projects.
