Three of us in our mid to late 50s climbed Kilimanjaro using the Rongai route with our guide Tumaini and assistant guide Leonard.
It was the hardest thing we have ever done - but worth the effort. Without the good care that Tumaini and Leonard took of us, we may not have made it. Since that time Tumaini has now set up his own company, Majestic Kilimanjaro Treks & Safaris and I have no hesitation in recommending them for aspiring climbers. We were well looked after at all stages of our climb. The food was excellent, the tents, sleeping bags and sleeping mats were all of good quality and Tumaini took a personal interest in our welfare - letting us go at our own pace, encouraging and reassuring us as necessary. Organisation was also good and we were all confident in his abilities and had no doubts that he would get us to the top. Tumaini has excellent English, and has a warm, friendly personality. Apart from everything else he did for us, at my request, Tumaini also taught me some Swahili. Unfortunately, I have now forgotten nearly all of it -except for the word, 'Twende' meaning 'let's go' If you intend to climb Kilimanjaro any time soon, I can confidently recommend Majestic Kilimanjaro with Tumaini and Leonard.
